A superstar of the late summer border is Anemone x hybrida "September Charm" which brings masses of large rose pink, cup-shaped flowers on tall, wiry stems from July. Here as it's name suggests, it's a perfect herald of September and was lovely to see in the walled garden at Middleton Hall, Warwickshire. This is a reliable, free-flowering beauty perfect in partial shade bringing a wonderful romantic feel to any herbaceous or mixed border. It does need a but more water than we've had this summer, but I regularly plant and recommend to clients and I wouldn't be without it.
