March - Containers

Here's a great job to start the month! Any shrubs and particularly agapanthus growing in containers will benefit hugely from top-dressing. Scrape away up to 5cm of the old compost from the top and replenish with a fresh, loam-based mix like John Innes No. 3, blended with some grit to improve drainage. You can also mix in a high quality pelleted slow release fertiliser like Vitax Q4 pelleted, Biochar N-P-K 5-5-5 organic or Osmocote Pro - I use the 5-6 month option. These will be perfect as the shrubs start to grow, and will provide enough food over the spring and summer.
